Based in Menlo Park, CA, I work for Yahoo! in their Developer Network. The easiest description of what I do is the MBA shin kicker, handling community, marketing, commercial programs and sundry backend stuff.

Intel assisting Asian OEMs with support for Linux installs for desktop machines

Cynthia Webb, in her Filter column in The Washington Post has a great rundown of the news around Intel’s move to simplify Linux installation for Asian PC manufacturers. Check out the full piece Linux Ready for Prime Time, Intel Says.
Intel’s assistance comes chiefly in the form of drivers - long the hardest part of Linux installs since manufacturers haven’t placed a premium on porting drivers to Linux. Driver availability has made such routine things as printing, scanning, supporting graphics and sound cards a challenge for Linux, and can be see as a key criteria for desktop usuability.
